Sydney's Southwest Metro gets a 30 October opening date after safety approval
After final approval from the national rail safety regulator, services from Bankstown to the CBD will start on 30 October. They will complete a continuous 66-km driverless M1 line to the north-west. Trains will run every four minutes at weekday peaks, and the line offers about 50% more capacity than the suburban line it replaces.
Metro Australia
Why it matters: Shorter trips for south-western suburbs, for example Lakemba to Victoria Cross in 37 minutes, 24 minutes faster than before.
