Rail Baltica starts installing its first high-speed turnouts in Lithuania
On the roughly 9-km Šveicarija–Žeimiai section, 16 standard-gauge turnouts rated for more than 249 km/h are being installed through December. The heaviest unit is 28 m long and weighs 30 tonnes, and it is placed with a 500-tonne mobile crane. Built-in sensors will monitor turnout condition in real time, and the rails are joined by thermite welding.
